In celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Canada, Art Ex connected with about 65 youth, ages 8 to 19 years, to create a Canada 150th Anniversary Mural. From April to June 2017, Art Ex directors took supplies and tiles, and paired them with images which reminded the participants of Canada. The subject matter was as varied as the participants. Two directors took the tiles to Exploits Valley Intermediate School every Monday after school for interested students to create and paint their tiles. Every Saturday afternoon in the same time period, the directors went to Ibex Fuels where any student who was interested could come and paint a tile for the mural. To complete the mural, sessions were held at Y2C Centre for three Wednesdays in June and Avoca Collegiate in Badger. During the late summer these tiles were assembled and arranged to create the Canada 150th mural, which is now housed at the new Corduroy Brook Centre. The final product was officially unveiled on the Opening night of our Art Ex Festival weekend to an amazed group of youth and parents. None had seen the final product until that time, and they were all amazed at the finished product and were very proud of their work. On hand for the unveiling was our town Mayor and Director of the Corduroy Brook Centre, Barry Manuel, who enthusiastically accepted the mural on behalf of the association.
