Printmaking: Prospectus Gum Arabic workshop with Audrey Feltham
This workshop is a ½ day workshop and is designed as an introductory workshop in a lithographic print medium which can be done using an etching press. The method of printing
is suitable for both paper and textile.
This is a relatively simple process but requires great attention to the use of the materials.
It is imperative that the image used by the participants be printed on 28 lb paper (available
at Staples) and that it be printed using fresh toner on a laser printer or copier. DO NOT USE
TONER THAT HAS BEEN RECYCLED. IT WILL NOT WORK.
Set your printer at 1200 dpi. This gives you maximum toner coverage and allows for
a good, crisp print.
Your image should be high contrast. This method does not work well with mid range
You will be limited in image size. For this workshop you will be using paper that is
8 ½ x 11. Your image should be at least 1” smaller on all margins, i.e., no larger than
6 ½ x 9.
PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO BRING:
1. images printed laser printed toner on 28 lb. paper. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE LIGHTER
PAPER. It will simply tear during the printing process.
Make very sure that your images are high contrast (black/white).
Bring more than one image. You are likely to experience some failure in the beginning as this is a process that requires great diligence, patience and attention
to the printing process.
2. Bring your own disposable gloves and you will need more than one pair. This tends
to be a messy method of printing and you will get ink on your hands.
4. Sponge. Do not bring a sponge with large holes. You need a sponge that is dense…
ideally a car sponge or something similar.
5. A roll of shop towel for clean up.
6. A Piece of plexi-glass approximately 14 x 16”.
7. hair dryer (NOT a heat gun)
